Knowledge Transfer

The research activities of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, thanks to the interdisciplinary nature and the interaction with the cultural, social, scientific and economic world, has created over the years a strong impact on industrial dynamics and technological innovation. This activity has given rise over time to important and consolidated collaborations with companies and public bodies. The laboratories and research centers of the School have given rise to numerous spin-off companies and an extensive patent portfolio consisting of national and international titles, some of which are shared with other public and private institutions or licensed to companies. The School is among the best universities in Italy for the ratio between patents and the number of teachers/researchers in Science & Technology. In addition to this, there is a significant number of spin-off companies in high-tech sectors such as robotics, photonics, microengineering, biomedical, environmental, financial, technological and legal consulting.
