Standing by the controversial frontiers of European copyright law: a stellar line-up of speakers for the conference organized on Monday 21 June from 2 to 5 pm by “reCreating Europe” about digital rights, net neutrality, access to culture and creativity
What is the impact of the most recent interventions of the European legislator on digital rights, freedom of expression, net neutrality, access to culture and creativity? What shall we do to make better laws and strike a fairer balance between the interests at stake?
These and other topics and their connection with the heavily contested Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market are at the center of the web conference “The implementation of the CDSM Directive: snapshots into the future of EU copyright law”, organized within the framework of the Horizon 2020 project reCreating Europe a few days after the deadline for the national implementation of the directive. The conference will take place on Zoom on Monday 21 June from 2 to 5 pm, and in live streaming on reCreating Europe’s YouTube channel.
The event will be opened by the interventions of two distinguished keynote speakers, Professor Raquel Xalabarder (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) and the First Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Maciej Szpunar. In the four panel sessions that will follow, reCreating Europe’s researchers will discuss with a stellar line-up of academics, policy-makers and representatives of stakeholders and civil society some of the most debated aspects of the CDSMD (copyright flexibilities and text and data mining, authors’ remuneration, automated content-filtering by internet platforms, preservation of cultural heritage). Among the guests-discussants, Cédric Manara (Head of Copyright at Google), Jeremy Rollinson (Senior Director for European Governmental Affairs at Microsoft), Agustin Reyna (Director of Legal and Economic Affairs at the European Consumer Organization), Ariadna Matas (Policy Advisor, Europeana), and many others.
