Destination University: applications are open to participate in Me.Mo., the guidance project of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna for female high school students from fragile backgrounds
High schools are called to identify their candidates, who must apply by Tuesday, December 17, 2024. The new edition of Me.Mo. -Merit and Social Mobility is funded with PNRR resources thanks to the MERITA project
Me.Mo. - Merit and Social Mobility, now in its sixth edition, is an guidance and accompaniment project toward university choice for students of merit, from fragile socio-economic backgrounds, enrolled in the fourth year of high school. Almalaurea data from 2024 show that the population of graduates comes from more advantaged socio-cultural backgrounds: one in three graduates has at least one parent holding a university degree, and the percentage rises to one in two for single-cycle graduates in medicine and law. The Me.Mo. project aims to close this disparity.
Me.Mo. is coordinated by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and funded with PNRR resources through the MERITA project, a collaboration between Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, Collegio Superiore of the University of Bologna, Scuola Galileiana di Studi Superiori, University of Padua and Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati of Sapienza in Rome. This synergy makes it possible to expand the pool of participants from 360, as in previous editions, to a maximum of 600.
How to apply
Each high school is asked to identify students with good academic performance who may face difficulties in continuing their studies due to a fragile socioeconomic background or with parents who do not have a bachelor's degree.
The identified students can then participate in the selection process by registering their application on the dedicated platform by Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Why participate in Me.Mo.
The Me.Mo. project consists of a completely free merit-based program with a focus on the background. The goal is to reduce inequalities in access to university education, encouraging the younger generation to pursue university studies, regardless of their social status. The pathway aims to provide all the useful tools for pursuing studies at university, once they have finished high school, so as to make female students aware of the possibilities not only for personal growth, but also of the opportunities for their contribution to the development of the community and the country.
The completely free, year-long course includes thematic in-person and online meetings, academic insights, guidance on the opportunities offered by university studies, mock admission tests and customized mentoring paths. In agreement with each school, participation in Me.Mo. may be recognized as part of the “Pathways to Soft Skills and Orientation” (PCTO).
The program includes peer-to-peer learning activities in which participants are mentored by students who have recently entered the university world, facilitating a comparison of similar life experiences and paths. At the heart of the course is a residential event with a few days at the Scuola Sant'Anna sites or the other Schools in the network.
