Pisa ‘s squares are once again the protagonists of BRIGHT-Night , the European Night of Researchers , which returns on Friday 27 September with a series of events born out of the collaboration between the University of Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore, Sant'Anna School, CNR, INFN, INGV, EGO-Virgo, under the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa. Scientific experiments and demonstrations, interactive workshops, games and activities dedicated to children animate the event in the city centre where citizens, starting at 4.30 p.m., meet the protagonists of research. For the 2024 edition, Bright-Night in Pisa opens with an international event involving the European University Alliances to which Tuscan universities belong and successful female entrepreneurs from the Pisan innovation ecosystem: the date is for the morning of Friday 27 September in the Palazzo della Sapienza of the University of Pisa which, starting at 10 a.m., will host Bright Women ‘Shining in Innovation’, an event to explore success stories and promote female empowerment in the entrepreneurial world.

This year's numbers tell of a Night enlightened by around 200 events, with 36 interactive stations and 26 talks in the squares, inspired this year by the ‘P's’ of the Sustainable Development Agenda: ‘Planet’ (Piazza Santa Caterina), ‘People’ (Largo Ciro Menotti), ‘Prosperity’ (Piazza dei Cavalieri) and ‘Peace’ (Logge di Banchi). Thanks to the partnership with CNA, in each square there are stands of local food and wine companies for the ‘Taste of Research’. Many initiatives are also organised in departments, libraries, museums, university buildings and research centres. In the morning, more than 2,000 school students of all levels are expected, who from Pisa, Livorno, Massa, Pontedera, Cascina, Cecina and other towns in the area have booked to take part in more than 60 activities dedicated to them in the various institutional venues, where they will attend lectures, visit laboratories, and conduct experiments together with researchers. There will also be theatrical performances dedicated to Dante in the Logge di Banchi and two guided tours in Piazza dei Miracoli by the Scuola Normale Superiore, with the collaboration of the Opera Primaziale. In Piazza Santa Caterina, the "Edicola della Legalità" will remain exceptionally open and host an event on legality and the Italian Constitution. Closing the event with the show ‘Shaping a Brighter Future’, videomapping in the Logge di Banchi with four projections scheduled from 8 to 10 p.m. To follow, DJ set by Radioeco. The detailed programme is available at www.bright-night.it.

The schedule of activities in Pisa was presented at a press conference attended by Alessio Cavicchi, delegate for the promotion of entrepreneurial culture and innovation and scientific head of Bright-Night of University of Pisa, Giuseppe Iannaccone, deputy pro-rector of the University of Pisa, Michele Conti, mayor of Pisa, Francesco Cardarelli pro-rector for technology transfer at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Mariagrazia Alabrese, associate professor and Bright-Night contact person at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Simona Bronco, Bright Night organisational contact person for the Pisa CNR Research Area, Tomaso Esposti Ongaro, director INGV Pisa, Paolo Spagnolo, director INGV Pisa, Vincenzo Napolano, EGO communications manager. Bright Women
New for this edition is the theme ‘BRIGHT Women’, a focus dedicated to research and studies that promote the well-being and emancipation of women and which will be discussed at the event scheduled to take place in Florence on Wednesday 25 September, anticipating the appointments of the 27th. The initiative, entitled ‘Bright Women: Research for Global Well-Being’, scheduled at 10 a.m. at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati, in Piazza Duomo in Florence, was created with the collaboration of the Regional Equal Opportunities Commission of Tuscany and sees the contributions of all the partner organisations, for the first time united in proposing a common appointment, which will then have variations in all the cities. In Pisa, for the Bright Women focus, the appointment will be on the morning of Friday 27 September in the Palazzo della Sapienza which, starting at 10 a.m., will host Bright Women ‘Shining in Innovation’, an event dedicated to female entrepreneurship involving international guests from the network of European University Alliances to which Tuscan universities belong (Circle U., EUniWell, EELISA) and successful female entrepreneurs from the Pisan innovation ecosystem.
