Climate change and decarbonization (CLIMA)
CLIMA (Climate change and decarbonization) research area stems from the growing interest in climate change and decarbonization in private and public sectors.
Topic
CLIMA area carries out training activities and supports its partners in identifying their principal emissions sources and drivers, barriers and best practices related to the fight against climate change.
Research methodology
CLIMA offers enterprises and institutions tools and support to develop decarbonization strategies and implement actions to reduce emissions and enhance climate change adaptation capacity.
This research area uses qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
Projects and partners
CLIMA area manages European and national projects and also projects funded by private associations and enterprises. One of its most relevant European projects is HORIZON Regions4Climate which has the objective of developing solutions to tackle climate change challenges at the territorial level.
In addition, CLIMA cooperates with private partners, such as ENI-Fondazione Mattei, in climate change adaptation initiatives and San Pellegrino Spa (an enterprise operating in the beverage sector) for implementing decarbonization strategies.
CLIMA participated in the Lucca Sostenibile project, aiming to define tools and initiatives to fight climate change at the urban level, and cooperated with the Florence Chamber of Commerce in a traineeship project for enterprises focused on decarbonization.
Impacts
CLIMA activities impact organizations, enterprises and territories involved.
In addition, the CLIMA group participates in significant events at the international level, such as COP26 and COP27 (with PhD students) and its preparatory events (e.g., the Global Compact event in Milan in 2021), but also at the national and local level, such as Toscana Carbon Neutral 2050 Scientific board for drafting the Regional Plan on Carbon Neutrality of Regione Toscana.
